If you do not have ability to scan documents at home, there are apps for your mobile devices that allow you to use your mobile device's camera to scan documents. The preferred format for scanned documents is PDF, since it allows multiple pages to be consolidated into a single file (as opposed to simply taking a picture of a document which creates one file per page.) Additionally, scanning apps provide for cropping and straightening the documents to make them look better. Ideally, an app that supports saving files directly to Google Drive makes it easier to add the PDFs to Google Classroom for turning in assignments.
Beginning with iOS 11, you don’t need to download an app. With Notes on iOS, you can easily scan a document and even save it as a PDF.
